ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL
Students are allowed to arrive on the school grounds after 8:30 a.m. in the morning, since the playground is not supervised before that time.  The late bell is at 8:55 a.m.
During the first few minutes of each day, students receive valuable instructions regarding work for the rest of the day.  Arriving late puts a child in a hardship position. Please make every effort to have your child(ren) arrive before the late bell so they can get the best start possible.

GETTING TO SCHOOL

If riding the school bus, students are expected to follow the bus rules of conduct. Bus citations can be issued with the ultimate consequence of being removed permanently as a rider.

If riding a bike to school, students are expected to lock up their bikes in the bike rack correctly.  Students should not share locks and chains.  The school will not be responsible for stolen bikes.  The bike rack gate is locked during xschool hours. As we do not have a method to secure or store scooters, skateboards or inline skates, they are not xallowed at school.

If walking to school, students are expected to respect the property of others.  Allow enough time to get to school before the late bell rings at 8:55 a.m.  We suggest students walk in groups for safety purposes.

TELEPHONE
The school telephone is a business phone. Students may use the phone for emergencies. Any after school arrangements for visiting friends and/or change of pickup schedule need to be made before coming to school. Forgotten homework will be dealt with in the classroom with consequences that have been established.

LOST AND FOUND
If you report losses immediately, every effort will be made to help locate lost items. However, the school cannot assume responsibility for your losses. There are lost & found boxes in the MPR that may be checked for lost clothing items.

CAMPUS SAFETY
To eliminate unnecessary traffic, each student is expected to have a pass when going from one area of the school to another.

ASSEMBLIES
At all times, student behavior should be refined and courteous.  An indication of the cultural level of a school is the conduct of the student body at an assembly.  Whether guests are present or not, each student is responsible for the impression made by the school as a whole.  Unacceptable conduct includes: boisterousness, booing, and talking during a program.

HEALTH SERVICES
A First Aid Safety Assistance is available during school hours to handle minor school injuries and dispense prescription medications.  A school nurse is available on a limited schedule; usually one day per week.  Students who become ill at school should report to the office.  If the illness or injury is of such a nature that the student should go home, the parent will be
notified.  Students are not permitted to leave the school without permission from the school office.

MEDICATION
Students are not allowed to carry any medications with them at school including over the counter items such as: aspirin, cough drops, inhalers, etc.  If children should require medication during school hours, parents must complete a Parent/Guardian Request for Medication Assistance form (CCF-643) at the school office.  No medications of any kind can be administered or taken at school without a doctor’s prescription, including over the counter items.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES FOR EVACUATING THE BUILDING
Fire drill instructions are posted in each room throughout the building and must be followed.  Each drill shall be treated as if it were an actual emergency situation which potentially is a life and death matter.  Although speed is important in any such procedure, of greater importance is orderliness and the ability of all students to be given directions and proceed in an orderly manner.

TRANSFERRING
If you plan to move out of our zone during the school year, please try to notify the school office at least a week in advance.  This will help expedite your leaving the school with the proper transfer papers.  If you are moving to another school within Clark County, you will not be able to enroll your child until the withdrawal papers are completed from your present school.  All library and textbooks must either be returned or paid for prior to your transfer.

PICKING UP STUDENTS
We encourage parents not to pick up students early (prior to 3:06 p.m.).  Doctor’s appointment should be scheduled, when possible, before or after school. The end of the day is as important as the beginning. Key instructions and announcements will be missed. If you must check out your child early, please notify the teacher in advance. Check outs are done through the office. A picture ID is required. Anyone checking a student out must be listed on the Student Information Card (yellow card). No teacher will release a student without notification from the office.

LUNCHROOM
The multipurpose room is used for both lunch and breakfast.  Students who bring their lunch from home will eat in the multipurpose room along with those being served school lunches.  (No glass bottles.) Students who wish to go home for lunch must clear this with the teacher and check out through the front office. A written note or phone call is required prior to a student leaving school for lunch.

LUNCH RULES
The lunchroom is a place where good human relations can be developed. Here, each student is expected to practice the general rules of good manners one should find in the home. Some simple rules of courteous behavior which will make the lunch period pleasant and relaxed are:

  • Observe good dining room manners at the table.
  • Leave the table and surrounding area clean and orderly.
  • Put trash in proper container.
  • Wait your turn in line.
  • All food and drink will be finished in the lunchroom.

LUNCH RECESS

  • Classroom teacher delivers students to the playground for recess.
  • Playground supervisors bring students into the MPR for lunch.
  • Students cannot leave the lunchroom without a hall pass.
  • If students are returning to the classroom to eat with the teacher, the teacher will escort these students to the classroom. Please throw all lunch trays in the cafeteria garbage cans when finished eating. Throwing lunch trays in the restrooms or classroom garbage cans encourages ants. Students will not be left in the classroom unsupervised.
  • Students will go directly to their line-up area when dismissed from the lunchroom.

CONDUCT/DISCIPLINE
If a student conducts himself in such a manner that the best interests of the school are in jeopardy, then that student may be subject to disciplinary action according to due process guidelines.  Behavior not in the best interest of the school is defined as:

  1. Fighting or inciting a fight.
  2. Rock or sand throwing on or near the campus before, during or after school.
  3. Constant refusal to prepare assignments or to enter into classroom activities within the student’s capabilities.
  4. Open defiance of teacher, school authorities, or other school employees. (The physical attitude or defiance, threat, profanity, or other verbally threatening action.)
  5. Bringing knives, dangerous objects, sharp instruments, or toys to school.
  6. Possession or the use of tobacco.
  7. Using intoxicants, drugs, or the possession of these items at school will result in legal prosecution and disciplinary action.
  8. Gambling of any kind.
  9. Hazing - harassing by banter, ridicule or criticism; playing abusive and humiliating tricks.

DISCIPLINE
The school provides each student with the maximum opportunity to acquire an education. No student has the right to interfere with this opportunity by their actions, poor manners, or lack of consideration.  All rules and regulations are developed and enforced with this thought in mind.
School rules apply on the school grounds, in the classroom, and at events where our school is represented; regardless of location.

A – 90-100% mastery of grade level benchmark
B – 80-89% mastery of grade level benchmark
C – 70-79% mastery of grade level benchmark
D – 60-69% mastery of grade level benchmark
F – Below 60% mastery of grade level benchmark
W – Working on standards below grade level

      S – Meeting standards
N – Does not meet standards

Progress Report Cards are sent home to parents at the close of each trimester of the school year.  The pupil’s record of absences, tardiness, etc. is included in the report.  Parents are requested to study these reports.  Parents are urged to get acquainted with the teachers and to confer with them as frequently as necessary.

PARENT-STUDENT-TEACHER ACADEMIC PLANNING TIME
Family conferences will be scheduled after the first trimester in January. Should you desire a conference with your child’s teacher any time during the school year, please contact the office so that arrangements can be made. We encourage parent involvement and frequent conferences. Conference dates:

      January 9 – evening
January 10 – No school for students

ABSENCES
A note explaining daily absences from school is expected on the first day the student returns to school.
When students are absent, their health says they are not ready to work, therefore, work will not be sent for students home sick.  The teachers will use their discretion for make-up work depending on the type of lesson and the needs of the student.  Make-up work will be given to the student when they return and they will be given a reasonable amount of time to complete it (minimum of 3 days).  Any extended absence, known in advance, must be requested, in writing, discussed with the teacher, and will be considered as an excused absence provided it does not exceed 10 days.  Again, it is the discretion of the teacher whether advance work will be given to the student.
Habitual absences and truancies will be reported to the proper authorities
